The FÍS Film Festival is an annual event that brings together schools whose films have been shortlisted for an “Outstanding Achievement” award. It is a fantastically exciting occasion and in recent years it has taken place in The Helix theatre in Dublin. Almost 900 children from 24 schools attend to celebrate their film-making achievements during the school year.
The FÍS Film Festival ceremony is filmed like a live TV broadcast by students of the National Film School at IADT as part of their college learning experience. In 2011, shortly after being elected President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins attended the FÍS Film Festival. Listen to his inspirational speech if you have time. It was such an honour to have him at the Festival, to encourage and support all the children who had made films that year. We were very privileged.
